The top 3 holiday reads

If you’re an avid book fan, then nothing can beat that uninterrupted (unless you have children) time spent by the pool or on the beach with your nose stuck in a good book. Escapism is a wonderful thing and books can provide just that, a welcomed distraction from the routine of day-to-day life.

We all have reading material preference. What one person may deem as a great read, another may not. What is important however is that it provides the escapism we all crave on holiday. Hopefully the 3 books I am about to recommend will offer something for all reading tastes.

Russell Brand is an individual who you love to hate. He is gregarious and shocking, and these characteristics display more than ever within his witty and sometimes slightly disturbing book ‘Booky Wook’. We know his reputation as a womaniser, drug user and alcoholic, yet this book tells specific details in such unashamedly ways we cannot help but be shocked once again. However amongst this there is a humour and candour to his writing that somehow give the stories a more serious edge, like he is trying to glean over the regret and shame. Definitely one to read if you love hearing about others lives.

If you prefer something with a bit more bite, that you can get your teeth into, then perhaps Stieg Larssons ‘The girl with the dragon tattoo’ will be more up your street. It tells the adventure of oddly matched detective duo Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander who end up together solving a 30-year-old mystery. It at times is quite disturbing due to its talk of sexual abuse and violence. Definitely not one for the faint hearted or if you are expected a light, heart-warming storyline.

Finally, one for the ladies perhaps is ‘The divine secrets of the Ya-Ya sisterhood’ by Rebecca Wells. This is definitely the one if you want that typical holiday easy-read. Full of romance, tragedy, life questions and challenges it follows the story of a young woman about to get married. In her questioning of happiness and what she really wants from life, her divorced Mother’s friends, the Ya-ya’s, troupe together to change her views on life.

So hopefully there are three great books to start you off with on your all-inclusive sun-soaked holiday that will suit any taste.
